Trump administration reaches deal with Northwestern University to restore research funds

'Northwestern University will pay $75 million to the United States through 2028,' Justice Department says

WASHINGTON (AA) - The Trump administration announced Friday it reached an agreement with Northwestern University to restore research funds.

"As part of the agreement, Northwestern University will pay $75 million to the United States through 2028," the Justice Department said in a statement.

The school in the state of Illinois has agreed “to adhere to federal anti-discrimination laws, ensuring that the university does not preference individuals based on race, color, or national origin in admissions, scholarships, hiring, or promotion," it said.

The Trump administration froze $790 million in federal funding for Northwestern University in April amid a crackdown against pro-Palestinian students on school campuses.
