Delay election until people can 'properly, securely and safely' vote, says US president

WASHINGTON (AA) - President Donald Trump on Thursday called for delaying the November presidential election, claiming it would be "the most inaccurate" and "fraudulent" one in US history.

"With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???" Trump said on Twitter.

The proposal came months after Trump voiced opposition to mail-in ballots amid the coronavirus pandemic, which he said would lead to a "rigged election."
