Trump calls for troop deployment amid Los Angeles immigration raid unrest

ISTANBUL (AA) – US President Donald Trump on Monday called for troop deployment amid unrest during immigration raids in Los Angeles.

"Looking really bad in L.A. BRING IN THE TROOPS," Trump stated in a post on Truth Social.

In another post, Trump ordered the immediate arrest of anyone wearing a mask.

Trump also stated that Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell had reported that protesters "are getting very much more aggressive" and "that he would 'have to reassess the situation,'" and urged him to do so immediately.

"Don’t let these thugs get away with this. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," Trump added.

The US president blamed the Democratic leadership of California and the city of Los Angeles for the unrest that began as a result of raids by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), saying his administration would never allow such events to continue.

On Saturday, Trump signed a memo invoking Title 10 authority to deploy a minimum of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles County after confrontations between immigration officials and protesters in Paramount, California, as well as widespread demonstrations across the county.

In a post on X, Newsom claimed that Trump's move was "purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions."

The protests in Los Angeles, held in support of undocumented immigrants detained by ICE, continue, prompting strong statements from the Trump administration.
