Trump dismisses National Archivist Shogan in latest government shakeup

White House does not provide a reason for Shogan's firing, but she was involved in investigation into Trump's handling of classified documents after leaving office in 2021

ISTANBUL (AA) - President Donald Trump dismissed Colleen Shogan, the US national archivist, on Friday as part of his ongoing government overhaul.

White House Director of Presidential Personnel Sergio Gor announced the decision on X, thanking Shogan, an American author and academic who served as archivist from May 17, 2023, for her service but providing no reason for her removal.

Shogan confirmed her dismissal in a LinkedIn post, stating, “No cause or reason was cited. It has been an honor serving as the 11th Archivist of the United States. I have zero regrets—I absolutely did my best every day for the National Archives and the American people.”

The National Archives played a key role in the investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents after he left office in 2021.

Trump had previously signaled his intention to replace Shogan during a radio interview last month, saying, “We will have a new archivist.”

The dismissal is part of Trump’s broader effort to reshape government leadership, which has included firing and sidelining numerous officials and civil servants.
