Trump's attack threat: Russia says it's monitoring situation in Nigeria, asks US to adhere to int'l law

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova says she sees no need to comment on Kazakhstan's decision to join Abraham Accords

MOSCOW (AA) - Russia is closely monitoring developments related to reports of potential US military action in Nigeria, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday.

Responding to an Anadolu question at a press briefing in Moscow about the situation in the African country, Zakharova urged Washington to adhere to international law.

“We are closely monitoring this issue and call on all parties involved to strictly comply with international legal norms,” she said.

On Nov. 1, US President Donald Trump declared that he had ordered the Pentagon to develop options for possible military measures against terrorist groups in Nigeria to protect Christian communities there.

In response to another Anadolu question about Kazakhstan's intention to join the Abraham Accords, Zakharova replied that Moscow does not see the need to comment on it at this time.

"Get a response from the country you mention, and then, if there need be, we'll comment on it," she said.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that he and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. President Tokayev informed Netanyahu that Kazakhstan will be the first country in Central Asia to join the agreement.
