TUNIS, Tunisia (AA) – Tunisian President Kais Saied held talks in the capital Tunis on Tuesday with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.

The discussions dwelt on ways to enhance and develop the Tunisian-Qatari relations in various fields, the Tunisian Presidency said in a statement.

Sheikh Khalid expressed his country's willingness to fund several projects in Tunisia, including the shipping of one of its football stadiums to Tunisia that was temporarily built for hosting matches of the 2022 World Cup.

The Qatari premier, who is also holding the Interior Ministry portfolio, also reviewed with the Tunisian leader the agenda of a planned meeting of Arab interior ministers, due to open in Tunis on Wednesday.

Tunisia has been in the throes of a deep political crisis that aggravated the country's economic conditions since 2021, when Saied ousted the government and dissolved parliament.
