ANKARA (AA) – In a joint operation in Istanbul, Turkish police and the National Intelligence Operation (MIT) captured two accused senior terrorists of the outlaw Marxist-Leninist Communist Party (MLKP), the Interior Ministry announced Sunday.
Both women suspects were on Turkey’s official terrorist wanted list with a bounty of 300,000 Turkish liras (roughly $53,000) on their heads, said a ministry statement.
Songul Dilek and Gunes Akan, codenamed Eylul and Rojda respectively, used to operate in Turkey’s eastern Tunceli province, according to police.
A search of the suspects’ residences found fake ID cards, university student ID cards, and cash in both dollars and Turkish liras.
The statement added that out of five MLKP terrorists operating in the Tunceli province, two were neutralized in a counter-terrorism operation and one was persuaded to lay down their arms.
With Sunday’s announced arrest, according to the Interior Ministry, rural Tunceli no longer has any MLKP terrorists.
