Turkey arrests 43 at funeral of DHKP-C terrorist

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish police arrested a total of 43 suspects on Saturday at the funeral of a wanted terrorist, who had been remanded in custody as part of probe into the DHKP-C terror group.

During the funeral of Ibrahim Gokcek, who was on the grey category of the Interior Ministry’s wanted terrorist list, demonstrators threw stones on the police.

A total of 43 were arrested and 25 of them were released after their statements were recorded. The other 18 suspects would be referred to court.

On Thursday, Gokcek lost his life in a hospital after a 323-day hunger strike, which had ended two days before.

Gokcek was on the grey category of the Interior Ministry’s wanted terrorist list.

The DHKP-C is responsible for a number of terror attacks in Turkey, including a 2013 attack on the US Embassy in Ankara, which martyred a Turkish security guard. The group is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU.
