Turkey backs Georgia's territorial integrity: FM

Foreign minister says Turkey, Georgia enjoying 'excellent' bilateral relations

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey supports Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Tuesday.

Speaking in Ankara on the second day of the 9th Ambassadors’ Conference with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Janelidze, Cavusoglu said: "We support Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty."

Cavusoglu said: "We have been enjoying excellent bilateral relations. We have no political problem."

He added despite difficulties in the regions, bilateral trade volume between the two countries has been increasing.

Cavusoglu also said Turkey gave support to Georgia's integration in NATO.

Janelidze said Georgia "highly" valued Turkish support to Georgia.

He added Turkey and Georgia are celebrating 25 years of diplomatic relations in 2017, adding: "This 25 years have been exemplary."

"We have excellent political relations. We are developing also excellent trade economic relations," said Janelidze.

Janelidze said Turkey was a "strong" supporter of Georgia's integration in NATO.

"We are confident that Georgia's NATO membership will be equally beneficial for Georgia, as well as for the alliance," he added.

Janelidze is expected to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his two-day visit to Ankara.
