Turkey: Civilian wounded in PKK attack dies at hospital

Death toll rises to six in August 10 bomb attack in southeastern Diyarbakir province

By Halil Ibrahim Sincar

MARDIN, Turkey (AA) - A civilian wounded in an Aug. 10 bomb attack in southeastern Diyarbakir province succumbed to his injuries Thursday, a hospital source said.

Veysel Yildirim, who was injured when a police vehicle in central Sur district was bombed by the PKK terrorists, had been under treatment at Diyarbakir Dicle State Hospital, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions over speaking to the media.

The attack wounded 11 people including five police officers, and killed six civilians including Yildirim.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, over 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists killed or neutralized in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
