Turkish aid agency TIKA also makes repair at maternity hospital in capital Skopje

By Dzihat Aliju

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - A Turkish aid agency carried out repair and equipment works at a maternity hospital in Skopje, Macedonian capital.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) donated vital medical equipment and conducted repair at Mother Teresa Maternity Hospital.

TIKA’s Skopje Coordinator Aytekin Ayden, Skopje Mayor Visar Ganiu and Hospital Director Baskim Ismaili took a tour at the hygiene and pre-sterilization unit -- which benefited the TIKA aid.

As part of the project, TIKA donated five washing machines, three dryers, 14 laundry trolleys, an industrial iron, a water softener, a laundry sink, and some cabinets, tables and chairs.

Ayden said the hospital expects 4,000 babies to be born in 2018 and TIKA aims to implement projects in Macedonia for the health of the newborn and to reduce infant mortality.

A similar project was earlier held for the newborn intensive care clinic at the Skopje State Hospital, he said.

“I believe that doctors, especially the hospital manager, will serve the public better,” Ganiu said, for his part.

TIKA is responsible for implementing Turkey’s developmental cooperation policies overseas.

The agency, established in 1992, offers aid to more than 40 countries around the world.
