Operation Euphrates Shield is now in its 68th day

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey hit 162 Daesh and 12 PKK/PYD targets Saturday as part of Operation Euphrates Shield in northern Syria, the military said Sunday.

The Turkish General Staff said in a statement that a terrorist was injured in two airstrikes carried out by U.S.-led coalition forces in the Maaret al-Numan region.

Turkey’s Operation Euphrates Shield was launched in late August to clear Syria's northern border area of terrorists. It is now in its 68th day.

The operation has seen both Daesh and PKK/PYD terrorist groups targeted by the opposition Free Syrian Army plus Turkish tanks, artillery and aircraft.

The PKK and its Syrian offshoot, the PYD, are both listed as terrorist groups by Turkey although the U.S. and EU only view the PKK as a terrorist organization.

The army added that since the beginning of the operation in late August, 33 mines and 1,369 handmade explosives had been destroyed.
