DOHA, Qatar (AA) - The second Turkish school in the Gulf Arab country of Qatar opened Wednesday -- the second and final day of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's official visit to the country.

The school will follow the Turkish curriculum and the language of instruction will be Turkish, Erdogan's spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said at the opening ceremony.

"This project will further strengthen Turkey-Qatar relations and serve the children of our [Turkish] citizens living in Qatar as well as the children of other countries' citizens," Kalin said.

The school, which cost 20 million Turkish liras (approx. $5.5 million) has a capacity for 250 students and will be supervised by the Turkish embassy in Doha.

The first Turkish school was opened in capital Doha last October. Previously, in December 2015, the Turkish Cultural Center Yunus Emre opened in Doha, in a move seen as bolstering ties between Turkey and Qatar.

There is a Turkish community of around 7,000 in the Gulf state.
