Turkey: Opposition criticizes gov't over PKK killings

Military operations should be carried out in secret, says leader of Turkey's main opposition party

By Emin Avundukluoglu

ANKARA (AA) -Turkey's main opposition leader Tuesday criticized the Turkish president over the PKK terror group's killing of 13 Turkish citizens last weekend.

"Someone who runs the state does not make a statement saying 'I will announce something very important on Wednesday'," Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), told his party's parliamentary group, referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's remarks last week.

"Operations are carried out in secret, nobody is informed," not after announcements, he urged.

Kilicdaroglu claimed the government doesn't "know how to rule the state. Let alone the state, not even a village is run like this. They can't even rule a village."

Turkey's martyrs of terrorist violence are the martyrs of 83 million Turkish people, he said.

"Their political views and identities may differ. They can carry out different missions, but they gave their lives for this country," Kilicdaroglu added.

The bodies of 13 Turkish citizens were found during an anti-terrorist operation launched last week in northern Iraq, National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Sunday.

Turkish forces launched Operation Claw-Eagle 2 on Feb. 10 to prevent the PKK and other terror groups from re-establishing positions used to carry out cross-border terror attacks on Turkey.

Operations Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle were initiated last June to ensure the safety of Turkey's people and borders.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
