Turkey’s CHP candidate elected mayor in Canakkale
Ulgur Gokhan bags nearly 60 percent votes, according to unofficial results
ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s main opposition candidate has been elected mayor of Turkey’s western Canakkale province in local elections on Sunday.
Ulgur Gokhan bagged 39,041 votes, while opposition Ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party got 23,531 votes, according to the unofficial results.
Earlier, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
