Turkey’s IHH aids orphans of slain Palestinian activist

Humanitarian Relief Foundation supports children of Fadi Abu Salah in various areas, including education, food, shelter

ISTANBUL – Five children of a slain Palestinian activist will be helped by a Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) program for orphans, the group said on Friday.

The children of Fadi Abu Salah, a disabled Palestinian activist who was severely injured during Israel’s 2008-2009 Operation Cast Lead, were left orphaned when Salah was killed last month by Israeli troops near the Gaza-Israel fence, where Palestinians were protesting Israel’s occupation and the relocation of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.

The IHH’s orphan unit brought the children into the Orphan Sponsorship System, where they will benefit from support for education, health, food, clothing and shelter, the group announced on its website.

In the system, people can sponsor an orphan by donating 100 Turkish lira a month.

The IHH regularly provides support to 2,000 orphans with sponsor families, and also helps those families in various ways.

The foundation takes care of more than 90,000 orphans in 55 different countries, apart from 76 Turkish cities.
