Turkey’s ruling party candidate elected Erzurum mayor
Mehmet Sekmen bags 63,21 percent votes in local elections, according to unofficial results
ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party candidate has been elected mayor of the eastern province of Erzurum on Sunday.
Mehmet Sekmen bagged 63,21 percent of the votes, while opposition Good (IYI) Party candidate Mahmut Uykusuz got 24,73 percent of the votes, according to unofficial results.
Earlier, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
