ISTANBUL (AA) - The first International Symposium on Malacology was recently held in a resort on Türkiye's Aegean Sea coast, according to a press release by the local municipality on Tuesday.

The event was hosted by the Bodrum municipality last week on Oct. 25-28, in collaboration with a local maritime museum and university.

A branch of invertebrate zoology, malacology deals with mollusks, including snails, slugs, scallops, octopuses, and squids.

The symposium hosted scientists from Türkiye, as well as the UK, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Russia, and other countries.

It featured 28 presentations under the honorary presidency of Hasan Gulesci, a founding partner of the Bodrum Maritime Museum.

Researchers presented their original studies in English on the biological, ecological, and taxonomic characteristics of marine, terrestrial, and freshwater mollusks, as well as the distribution of their populations.
