ANKARA (AA) - Turkish airstrikes killed four PKK terrorists in the Mt. Kato area of the southeastern Sirnak province, a General Staff statement said Saturday morning.

According to the statement, the airstrikes were carried out after drones spotted terrorists in the area preparing for a attack.

A total of 14 PKK terrorists have been killed since the beginning of Operation Maj. Gen. Aydogan Aydin, named after a gendarmerie commander in Sirnak martyred in a May 31 helicopter crash.

Aydin served a distinguished career, including operations in northern Iraq against the terrorist PKK.

The statement added that on June 5-9, Turkish forces located 10 terrorist hideouts in caves and seized an M-16 infantry rifle, two sniper rifles, 26 AK-47s, and many other hand grenades and bombs, as well as food and 650 liters of diesel oil.

More than 1,200 people, including security personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-long armed campaign in July 2015.
