KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - Some 100,000 families across Pakistan have received meat from a charity affiliated with Türkiye's top religious body during Eid al-Adha, a major Islamic religious festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide.

In collaboration with the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) and other donors, the Diyanet Foundation distributed over 24,500 shares of sacrificial meat during the holiday that lasts several days, according to a statement from the aid organization.

Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, is the second most important Muslim holiday. It marks the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

During the festival, many Muslims slaughter certain animals, including goats, sheep, cows, or camels, and donate portions to the needy.

Cemal Sangu, the Turkish consul general in the southern city of Karachi, attended a ceremony and distributed meat to families in need.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sangu said the real message of Eid is to remember and help the people in need.

Furkan Mustafa Akcakil, an official from the charity said the meat was distributed through local partners, including the Baitussalam Welfare Trust, Muslim Hands, and others.

He said Türkiye and Pakistan always support each other in trying times, pointing to massive floods that hit the South Asian nation last year and devastating earthquakes that shook southern Türkiye in February.
