EDIRNE, Turkey (AA) - A Turkish court on Tuesday remanded in custody a PKK terror suspect and an alleged member of the far-left DHKP-C terror group, judicial sources said.
The suspects – identified only by the initials S.B. and Z.Y. – were nabbed last week while trying to escape to Greece from Turkey's northwestern Edirne province.
They were caught in a restricted military zone in the Meric district of Edirne, near the Turkish-Greek border.
Their statements were recorded in the provincial prosecutor's office before they were taken to the Uzunkopru Courthouse.
The DHKP-C is responsible for numerous terror attacks in Turkey including the 2013 attack on the US Embassy in Ankara, which left a Turkish security guard martyred and a Turkish journalist injured.
The far-left group is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU.
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of at least 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
