Turkish defense firm ASFAT signs deal on selling warship to Romania

This marks Türkiye's first export of a warship to EU and NATO member state

By Serdar Dincel

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish Defense Firm ASFAT signed a warship sales agreement with Romania, Turkish defense sources said on Wednesday.

The export of the TCG Akhisar warship, which was completed in 2024 at the Istanbul Shipyard Command, marks the first time Türkiye has exported a warship to a NATO and EU member state.

It is considered a concrete demonstration of the reliability, quality, and technological competence achieved not only by ASFAT but also by the Turkish defense industry in the international arena, the company said in a statement.

In a statement, the company said that military cooperation between Türkiye and Romania had reached a new level.

The warship’s inclusion in the Romanian inventory as a corvette will contribute to regional maritime security and provide strong support for modernization of the Romanian Naval Forces, the company added.
