KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) - Turkiye’s embassy in Uganda celebrated the National Sovereignty and Children’s Day with an event held on Saturday.

“As we celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, we recognize that children are our future, we have to nurture them, I am proud to celebrate this day with them,” Kerem Alp, the Turkish ambassador, said at the event marking the day.

Omer Aykon, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) coordinator in Uganda, also attended the event.

Muwada Nkunyingi, a member of Uganda’s parliament, said that the future of any nation depends on the quality of the life of children of that nation.

“So many children have been killed in Ukraine, Palestine and elsewhere, many of them have been left orphaned. We urge the conflicting sides to develop strategies that ensure children remain free and safe from the violence, he said.”

Meanwhile, an exhibition of award-winning photographs opened in the Zambian capital Lusaka on Saturday.

The photographs were awarded in a contest organized by the Photojournalists Association of Turkiye.

Officially opening the exhibition, Turkiye's Ambassador to Zambia Istem Circiroglu said the photographs will be exhibited between April 23 and May 1, 2022.

The exhibition in Lusaka coincided with the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

The photographs, which were exhibited in Brussels, Belgium in the past weeks, were first exhibited in March during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
