ANKARA (AA) - Turks living in South Africa, Brazil, Malta, Pakistan and Turkmenistan began casting ballots Saturday in Türkiye's presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for May 14.

In South Africa, 1,392 Turkish nationals are eligible to cast votes at polling stations set up in the Turkish Embassy and Consulate General in Pretoria and Cape Town.

A total of 581 eligible voters in Brazil are turning to polling stations in the Turkish Consulate General in Sao Paulo.

In Malta, 2,808 are eligible to vote at a station set up in the Turkish Embassy in Valletta.

More than 1,200 Turkish nationals are eligible to cast ballots in Pakistan at polling stations set up in the Turkish Embassy and Consulate Generals in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

In Turkmenistan, eligible voters are turning to a polling station in the Turkish Embassy in Ashgabat.

About 3.41 million Turks are eligible to vote abroad.

The number of voters who cast votes in the representatives and custom bureaus in foreign countries for Türkiye's presidential and parliamentary elections has surpassed 1.4 million, according to the information obtained from the Supreme Election Board.

The voting process at customs gates and overseas representations started April 27.

Voting will continue until May 9 at overseas representations, while it will last until May 14 at custom bureaus.

Voting in Türkiye will take place May 14. Voters will choose between four presidential hopefuls: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, main opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, Muharrem Ince and Sinan Ogan.

Twenty-four political parties and 151 independent candidates are vying for seats in the 600-member Turkish parliament.
