Turkish financial crimes unit releases FETO data

MASAK investigated around 30,000 people suspected of having FETO links this year, new report states

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) has probed around 30,000 people linked to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) in around 400 cases, according to a government report.

The Finance Ministry's 2017 Budget Planning Commission document released Friday said a total of 29,698 people were the subject of FETO-linked investigations in under 398 different cases.

Under MASAK's analysis and evaluation study, it was revealed that a total of 879 financial transactions had been halted due to detected FETO links. A summary of transactions revealed a total worth of around 200 million Turkish liras ($58 million).

FETO, led by U.S.-based preacher Fetullah Gulen, is accused of plotting to overthrow the government by infiltrating state institutions, mainly the police and the judiciary.

The defeated July 15 coup saw 247 people martyred and around 2,200 others injured.
