ANKARA (AA) — The Turkish foreign minister held separate phone calls with his Norwegian and Tunisian counterparts on Tuesday, praising them for the solidarity they demonstrated after last month's earthquakes in southern Türkiye.

With Norway's Anniken Huitfeldt, Mevlut Cavusoglu also discussed the issues of NATO enlargement, extending the Black Sea grain initiative, and current developments in Afghanistan and Somalia, according to a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Cavusoglu also congratulated Tunisia's Nabil Ammar on his recent appointment as foreign minister of the North African nation, thanking him for the support his country provided in the wake of the earthquakes.

On Feb. 6, the magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 quakes struck 11 provinces — Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Elazig, Hatay, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.

More than 13.5 million people in Türkiye have been affected by the devastating quakes, as well as many others in northern Syria.
