Turkish intelligence ‘neutralizes’ senior PKK/KCK terrorist in northern Iraq

ANKARA (AA) - A senior PKK/KCK terrorist was “neutralized” in a Turkish intelligence operation in northern Iraq, security sources said on Wednesday.

Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) "neutralized" Abdulkahar Karasac, code-named Aliser Ciya, who was so-called in charge of the terror group’s special forces and who ordered a 2017 attack in which Turkish police officer Fethi Sekin was killed, according to security sources who requested anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Karasac, who is in the gray category of the Interior Ministry's wanted list, and participated in terrorist activities in Syria and Iraq, was also involved in the planning and implementation of the model plane and drone attacks against Türkiye.

The terrorist attack in Izmir took place on Jan. 5, 2017, just outside the main courthouse when police officer Sekin stopped a suspicious vehicle that turned out to be carrying explosives, preventing many more deaths.

Sekin, who only had a pistol, ran after two of the terrorists who had automatic rifles. He managed to shoot one of them but ran out of ammunition. He was killed as he tried to take cover.

The clash and car bombing left Sekin and court official Musa Can dead and nine others wounded.

In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.
