Turkish medical firm offers effective treatment for osteoarthritis

ISTANBUL (AA) - A Turkish medical firm is offering an effective new treatment for osteoarthritis, according to a statement by the company.

Rehydration via hyaluronic acid "provides an effective solution for knee treatment as it nourishes the joint and gathers worn cartilage pieces together," said the statement by INVAMED, quoting Rasit Dinc, the company's R&D head.

The effect of the treatment lasts around five to six months, Dinc noted, adding: "When the effect wears off, it is necessary to re-inject the liquid."

He stressed that hyaluronic acid injection prevents corrosion through its protective effect on the joint cartilage, and the procedure also relieves pain, increasing patients' quality of life.

"To prevent the kneecaps, the two largest bones in our body, from rubbing against each other and causing damage to the joint, this fluid in the joint must be supplied in sufficient quantity, otherwise it must be injected into the joint from the outside," he added.

Obesity stands out as one of the most important reasons for joint diseases mostly seen among the middle-aged group, as well as the younger population.

Intra-articular fluid loss is mostly observed among people that have physically demanding labor jobs, the overweight, those moving less, consuming insufficient water, the diabetics, and people with calcium deficiency.

Too much or too little use of the joints, excessive sports activities, or living a life completely away from sports and movement can cause weakening of the joints, and in such cases, there is a need to apply alternative methods that support the body, according to experts.
