Turkish physician, athlete elected Olympic Committee VP

ISTANBUL (AA) - The head of Turkey’s National Olympic Committee Thursday was elected vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
According to the Turkish Olympic Committee's website, Dr. Ugur Erdener was elected vice-president at the 129th session of the IOC in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the host of this month’s summer Olympic Games.
Erdener, a professor of ophthalmology at Ankara’s Hacettepe University, has also been a high-jumper, basketball player, and archer. He served as an advisor to Turkey’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Erdener has served as a member of the IOC since 2008.
