ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish prefabricated construction company Karmod is setting up a 2,000-bed workers’ camp at a gold mining site in Liberia as part of its growing presence in Africa, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The camp, located in the city of Gbarnga, is being built for mine staff and will consist of 32 single-story blocks covering about 15,500 square meters. The prefabricated dormitories were manufactured in Türkiye, shipped by sea to the port of Monrovia, and transported by road to the site, where installation is under way.

“Our mobilization structures are designed to withstand harsh field conditions while offering living spaces with the comfort of home,” said Ugur Kadir, general manager of Karmod Prefabric.

Each building will include 20 bedrooms, mostly arranged for three workers, with some designed for four. Every room will have its own bathroom and shower, he added.

Kadir said the project underscores Karmod’s ability to carry out multiple international assignments simultaneously. Beyond mining camps, the company has built prefabricated schools, health facilities, housing, offices and social centers in different countries.

The Liberia project is intended for white-collar employees and foremen working at the mine site, according to the statement.
