Turkish premier ends 2-day Bosnia-Herzegovina visit

Binali Yildirim meets with Bosnia's top mufti, visits gravesite of Alija Izetbegovic, founding Bosnian statesman

SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina (AA) - Turkey’s prime minister on Friday ended a two-day official visit to Bosnia's capital Sarajevo.

Binali Yildirim began the second day of his visit with a breakfast meeting with Husein Kavazovic, the top mufti in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Yildirim also met with Bosnian journalists and and paid a visit to the gravesite of Bosnia's first president, Alija Izetbegovic, who led the country to independence.

After visiting the Srebrenica Commemoration Museum and Sarajevo War Tunnel, Yildirim returned to Ankara.

Yildirim's visit mainly focused on boosting economic ties between the two countries.

On Thursday the chairman of the Council of Ministers in Bosnia and Herzegovina held an official welcoming ceremony for Yildirim in front of the Bosnian Parliamentary Assembly.

Yildirim also held a face-to-face meeting with the Bosniak member of the Presidency, Bakir Izetbegovic. The meeting was closed to the press.

He later addressed students and scholars at the International University of Sarajevo.

Yildirim led a delegation that includes Deputy Prime Minister Recep Akdag, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci, and Transportation, Maritime and Communications Minister Ahmet Arslan.
