Tuesday's newspapers dedicated their headlines to the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit, which began in Turkey’s largest city Istanbul Monday. Its stated goal is to improve the global humanitarian system and resolve man-made crises.

"First summit for humanity," read MILLIYET's headline, featuring a family photo of nearly 50 world leaders who attended the summit.

HURRIYET ran with the headline "Extend your hand", referring to the two-day summit's message to the world.

According to the daily, Erdogan said in his opening speech that the current humanitarian system was “inadequate for solving urgent problems” and that only certain countries were sharing the burden of the humanitarian crisis.

"Now everybody should take responsibility on this issue. [...] We know very well that pain has no race, language, and religion. With this understanding, Turkey delivered humanitarian aid in more than 140 countries," the Turkish president said, according to HURRIYET.

HABER TURK wrote that the summit was convened in Turkey as the country ranked third most generous country for the allocation of international aid all in 2012 and 2013.

According to another 2013 Global Humanitarian Assistance report, the top five donors were the U.S. with $3.8 billion, followed by EU institutions ($1.9 billion), the U.K. ($1.2 billion), Turkey ($1.0 billion) and Sweden with $784 million.

The summit comes as the Syrian civil war enters its sixth year, as Europe is facing the worst refugee crisis since World War II, and as global social inequality has reached a peak amid a rising population.

Hosting almost 3 million Syrian refugees, Turkey has spent nearly $10 billion on caring for them since the start of the Syrian crisis.

In political news, Turkish newspapers covered the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party's new chairman, and the incoming prime minister, Binali Yildirim's scheduled meeting with Erdogan in order to form the country’s 65th government.

"Cabinet today," read VATAN's headline, echoing the front pages of the other Turkish newspapers. The daily said that Yildirim would submit the new cabinet list draft to Erdogan on Tuesday, at 10 a.m. (0700GMT) in Ankara.

On May 5, outgoing Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced that he would not stand again for the AK Party chairmanship.

Erdogan requested that Davutoglu and the cabinet members stay at their posts until the new government is formed.

Yildirim, 60, who was the sole candidate to run for the party’s leadership, garnered 1,405 out of 1,411 votes in the election held at the at the Arena Sports Hall Sunday in Ankara. Out of the 1,411 votes, six were declared invalid.

Davutoglu had served as foreign minister from 2009 to August 2014, when he was elected chairman of the party after then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was elected president.
