Turkish forces and FSA have so far captured 26 areas in northwest Syria as Operation Olive Branch in Afrin enters 12th day

AZAZ, Syria (AA) - Turkish Armed Forces and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) on Wednesday captured the highest peak of Qurne mountains in the north of Syria's Afrin, according to Anadolu Agency correspondents in the region.

Turkish soldiers and FSA fighters began the operation around Bulbul village early Wednesday and freed the village of Bak Ubasi from the PYD/PKK terrorist group.

So far, 26 areas have been taken over as Operation Olive Branch entered the 12th day.

The operation aims to establish security and stability along Turkish borders and the region as well as to protect the Syrian people from the oppression and cruelty of PYD/PKK and Daesh terrorists, according to the Turkish General Staff.

The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey’s rights based on international law, UN Security Council decisions, self-defense rights under the UN Charter and respect for Syria's territorial integrity.

Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch on Jan. 20 to clear PYD/PKK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin, northwestern Syria.

Since the beginning of the operation, 20 rockets have hit Kilis in southern Turkey, killing two civilians and injuring 21 others.
