Turkish stock exchange ends midweek with losses

Benchmark BIST 100 index falls 62.02 points at Wednesday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Wednesday at 11,286.81 points, down 0.55% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 11,338.73, the BIST 100 index decreased 62.02 points from its close on Tuesday.

The lowest for the index was 11,250.46, while the daily high was 11,364.52.

A total of 54 indexes lost in value during the day, while 42 closed in the green.

The daily transaction volume reached 113.7 billion Turkish liras ($2.66 billion), while the overall value of the index was 10.58 trillion liras ($248.1 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 42.7235 as of 6.20 pm local time (1520GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 50.2425, and the British pound traded at 57.1865.

Gold was at $4,335.60 per ounce, while Brent crude oil was at $59.70.
