Turkish stocks up at midweek open

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gains 8.36 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,392.13 points on Wednesday, rising 8.36 points or 0.60% from the previous close.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell by 0.53% to close the day at 1,383.77 points with 13 billion Turkish liras ($1.47 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate slightly decreased to 8.8630 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared to 8.8690 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 10.3560 , versus 10.3700, and one British pound traded for 12.0150 Turkish liras, while it was at 12.0420 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for $76.95 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
