Turkish, Ukrainian defense ministers hold phone call on Ukraine

Oleksii Reznikov thanks Turkiye for humanitarian aid, peace efforts

ISTANBUL (AA) – In a phone call, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and his Ukrainian counterpart Oleksii Reznikov discussed the latest developments in Ukraine after Russia's military intervention, Turkiye’s National Defense Ministry said Monday.

Akar said that Ankara will continue working for peace in the region while continuing its humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Reznikov also thanked Akar for both humanitarian aid and peace efforts by Turkiye.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" in Ukraine on Thursday, days after recognizing two separatist-held enclaves in eastern Ukraine.

He claimed that Moscow had no plan to occupy its neighbor, but wanted to "demilitarize" and "denazify" Ukraine.

In response, Western powers imposed financial sanctions on Moscow and announced military and humanitarian support for Kyiv.
