Türkiye nabs 7 people trying to enter Greece, Iran illegally

Detainees include members of Daesh/ISIS, FETO terror groups, says National Defense Ministry

ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkish security forces arrested at least seven people, including two terror suspects, trying to cross the border into Greece and Iran illegally, Türkiye’s National Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the ministry, one of them was identified as a suspected Daesh/ISIS terrorist, while another was a member of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).

In 2013, Türkiye became one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS a terror group.

It has since been attacked by the terror group several times, with 315 people killed and hundreds injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed assaults.

In response, Türkiye launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.

FETO orchestrated the July 15, 2016 defeated coup in Türkiye in which 251 people were killed and 2,734 injured.

Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions; particularly the military, police and judiciary.
