KABUL (AA) - Türkiye's Diyanet Foundation (TDV) distributed sacrificial meat to 25,000 families across Afghanistan on the first day of the Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday, through Turkish philanthropists’ donations.

Efforts were carried out in cooperation with the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) and TDV.

Donations were delivered to low-income Afghan families in 16 provinces, including Herat, Kandahar, Faryab, Kunduz, Badgis and in particular, the nation’s capital, Kabul.

Five kilograms of meat was delivered to each family and 11,200 shares are planned for 40,000 low-income families through aid organizations that will continue during the days of the holiday.

Abdulkadir Bekiroglu, Religious Affairs Counselor of the Turkish Embassy in Kabul, and Muhammad Salim Haqqani, Provincial Director of the State Ministry of Combating Natural Disasters, attended a ceremony in Kabul at the Taliban Administration's State Ministry for Combating Natural Disasters, after which donations were provided to 500 low-income families.

Bekiroglu said it is very important for Afghans to feel Türkiye's support on special days such as holidays.

"This year, these aids will be delivered to 40,000 families. Considering that Afghanistan families are large families, we will reach approximately 200,000 to 250,000 people," he told Anadolu.

"Distribution programs will last for three days, especially in big cities such as Kabul, Kandahar, Herat and Mazar-i Sharif," he added.

The State Ministry of Combating Natural Disasters, Kabul Provincial Director Muhammad Salim Haqqani expressed that Türkiye has always stood by the Afghan people and thanked them for the assistance.
