ANKARA (AA) – Turkiye wants to deepen its cooperation with Uruguay in various fields and enhance bilateral trade, according to the Turkish foreign minister.
In an exclusive article written for Uruguay-based daily El Pais, Mevlut Cavusoglu expressed hope to increase trade relations with Uruguay, taking the bilateral trade to $1B dollars in the near future.
As part of his visit to Latin American countries, Cavusoglu hailed the long-standing ties between Turkiye and Uruguay, saying that the 93-year-long relations between the two countries continue to develop.
Turkiye considers Uruguay as one of the countries with the highest potential in Latin America, with its strong state structure, commitment to democratic values and stable development, Cavusoglu noted.
"The historic visit of Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo to Turkiye gave a new impetus to our joint efforts to develop relations in all dimensions. We welcome the decision of Uruguay to open an embassy in Ankara right after this visit and appoint an ambassador," Cavusoglu added.
The minister further stated that his country follows an enterprising and humanitarian foreign policy with Latin American countries, adding that Turkiye's presence in the region has increased rapidly within the last 10 years.
Cavusoglu also noted that friendship between the peoples of Turkiye and Uruguay is growing stronger.
