ASTANA, Kazakhstan (AA) – Türkiye greatly appreciates the support extended by the people and government of Kazakhstan after the Feb. 6 earthquakes, according to Turkish Ambassador Ufuk Ekici.

“We were touched by the support and solidarity in Kazakhstan,” Ekici told Anadolu.

He said help for quake victims came from all segments of Kazakh society.

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev personally called President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and pledged all possible support, he added.

“A rescue crew from Kazakhstan headed out on the second day, and began search efforts as soon as they reached Türkiye,” said Ekici.

“Two days later, the Kazakh government … sent another 60-member team,” he added.

Kazakhstan also contributed $1 million in emergency cash assistance, apart from sending 55 tons of relief supplies, including portable toilets, tents, blankets, and winter clothes, according to the envoy.

He said more than $4.1 million were collected so far in an earthquake relief account in Kazakhstan, all of which was transferred to the Turkish disaster agency AFAD.

“We are collecting donations at our embassy in Astana, as well as our consulates in Almaty and Aktau. Almost 100 tons of goods have been delivered so far,” said Ekici.

“Initially we were focusing on food, but now we are prioritizing supplies such as tents, generators, and heating equipment,” he added.
