KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) – Next month Turkiye and Uganda will co-host a two-day bilateral trade and tourism summit in Kampala, the East African country’s capital, officials announced Tuesday.

Addressing a joint news conference at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala, Turkiye’s Ambassador to Uganda Kerem Alp and Uganda’s Privatization and Investment Minister Evelyn Anite said the May 10-11 summit will focus on “accelerating investment, trade, industry, and tourism between Uganda and Turkiye in the post-COVID-19 era.”

Afterwards, they issued a joint statement saying: “We are pleased to announce that the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development, Uganda Investment Authority and the embassy of the Republic of Turkiye and Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkiye will jointly host the Uganda-Turkiye investment, trade, industry and tourism summit 2022 from May 10 to 11 at the Speke Resort Munyonyo.”

“The summit will attract over 600 investors carefully selected by Uganda Investment Authority, the embassy of the Republic of Turkiye in Uganda, the embassy of Uganda in Turkiye, and Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkiye,” the statement added.

It said the summit will be crowned with the launch of a Uganda-Turkiye industrial park and trade center in Nakasongola, some 100 kilometers (62 miles) from Kampala, built through a partnership between the Uganda Investment Authority and Uganda People’s Defense Forces’ National Enterprise Corporation.

Some of the goods that Turkiye exports to Uganda include furniture, lubricants, textiles, and energy products.

Uganda mainly exports agricultural products, including fruits, tea, and coffee.
