Türkiye's BIST 100 index climbs 1.44% at midweek close

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Wednesday at 10,464.48 points, surging 1.44% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 10,357.17, the BIST 100 index climbed 148.08 points from its close on Tuesday.

The lowest point for the index was 10,288.74, while the daily high was 10,501.30.

During the day, 79 indexes gained in value while 21 closed with losses.

The daily transaction volume reached 134.6 billion Turkish liras ($3.21 billion), while the overall value of the index was 9.7 trillion liras ($232.5 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 41.8395 as of 6.20 pm local time (1520GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 48.6985, and the British pound traded at 56.0440.

The price of an ounce of gold was $4,200.50, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $61.85.
