UAE says Russian, Ukrainian delegations engaged in ‘direct interaction’ during Abu Dhabi talks
Emirati official says discussions focused on key elements of US-proposed peace framework and were held in a constructive atmosphere

ISTANBUL (AA) - The United Arab Emirates on Saturday said that talks in Abu Dhabi between Russian and Ukrainian delegations included “direct interaction” between officials from both sides and centered on core elements of a peace framework proposed by the US.
The discussions focused on “prominent elements” of the US-backed proposal and were conducted in a positive and constructive environment, a UAE government spokesperson told the press.
The two-day talks started on Friday and concluded on Saturday.
On Friday, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met the heads of delegations taking part in the trilateral talks involving the US, Russia and Ukraine, according to WAM news agency.
Participants in the Abu Dhabi talks include US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Russia’s Igor Kostyukov, and Ukraine’s Kyrylo Budanov and Rustem Umerov, alongside senior officials from both countries.
During the meeting, the UAE president wished the negotiators success and said the UAE’s longstanding approach is to encourage constructive dialogue and support diplomatic solutions, stressing Abu Dhabi’s backing for efforts aimed at reaching a settlement that promotes global peace and stability.
