UAE warns Sudan war has 'no military solution,' urges unhindered aid access

Emirati ambassador condemns attacks in El Fasher, calls for civilian-led future for Sudan

GENEVA (AA) - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) envoy raised alarm on Thursday over the worsening conflict in Sudan, saying there is “no military solution” in the North African country.

In a media briefing on Thursday, Jamal Jama Al Musharakh, the UAE’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, recalled decades of humanitarian and development cooperation and said the UAE has “always supported Sudan in working towards being a stable, prosperous and civilian-led country.”

He warned that the Sudan war cannot be solved by force. The envoy expressed concern over rising violence, reports of sexual assaults, widespread displacement, and attacks on civilian areas and condemned atrocities in El-Fasher.

He said the UAE thinks neither group should “control Sudan’s future,” underscoring support for international efforts, including the Quad joint statement laying out a path toward a humanitarian truce, permanent ceasefire, and a civilian transition.

He highlighted the UAE’s role in the ALPS Group and recalled the high-level humanitarian conference co-hosted in Addis Ababa, along with the recent $100 million contribution for relief in El-Fasher.

Al Musharakh called for immediate, safe and unhindered humanitarian access across Sudan, warning that obstruction and the “weaponization of aid” are unacceptable.

He also firmly rejected what he described as "unfounded accusations" from the Sudanese army alleging Emirati support to either side, saying such claims are an attempt to deflect responsibility and prolong the conflict.

He concluded that the war has “no winners - only victims,” urging urgent international action to protect civilians and support peace.
