Ugandan, Congolese forces destroy 6 ADF camps
34 rebels arrested in operation authorities claim is going well

KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) - Ugandan and Congolese forces claimed Friday that they destroyed six Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) camps in the jungles of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Also, 61 rebels surrendered and 34 have been captured in an operation that started nearly one month ago.
Uganda army deputy spokesman Lt. Col. Ronald Kakurungo told Anadolu Agency that the operation is going well.
“We are continuing with the operation. Our objective is to stop them from organizing themselves because if they do so they attack villages and kill civilians,” said Kakurungo.
He said whenever officials learn where the rebels are assembling, they hit hard with air force or artillery.
“Even today, we engaged them and they fled,” he said. “The camps we have destroyed include Mombasa, Kambi Erimu, Kambi ya Yua, Belu One and Belu Two.”
He said the rebels that were captured are being held in Beni by Congolese forces.
After ADF rebels attacked villages in the Congo and killed civilians, and set up a base in the forests to plan bomb attacks in Uganda, the two countries late last month started joint attacks against the rebels.
