LONDON (AA) - UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Monday called for a renewed and "ambitious partnership" with the EU, stressing the need to strengthen economic growth, protect citizens, and enhance collective security across the continent.
On social media, Lammy said the UK is “building an ambitious relationship with the EU."
"John Healey and I agree with (EU foreign policy chief) Kaja Kallas – it’s in all our interests to negotiate a new security partnership to make Europe a safer place," he added.
The foreign ministers of Europe’s largest EU member states gathered in London on Monday for a high-level diplomatic meeting hosted by Lammy.
The talks included representatives from France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Poland as well as Kallas.
The comments come amid growing concerns over geopolitical instability and ongoing discussions in Westminster about the UK's post-Brexit role in European defense and intelligence frameworks.
Representatives from London and Brussels will meet next Monday for a Brexit summit.
