UK records hottest day ever

LONDON (AA) - The UK's Met Office announced on Tuesday it had provisionally recorded the hottest temperature ever in Britain.

Temperatures hit 39.1C (102.3F) in Surrey just before noon. The previous record was 38.7C (101.6 F) in Cambridge in 2019.

The Met Office said "if confirmed this will be the highest temperature ever recorded in the UK."

Temperatures are expected to rise further still throughout the day, with predictions that they will break through 40C (104F).

Brits have been advised to stay at home at the peak of the heatwave on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as to stay hydrated.
