Ukraine blasts railway tracks in Russia's Belgorod Region as train operations suspend

Explosive device planted under track in Prokhorovsky District exploded, derailing reserve locomotive, says Belgorod Governor Gladkov

MOSCOW (AA) — Another Ukrainian rail attack hit Russia on Friday, with a railway line blown up in the Prokhorovsky District of the Belgorod Region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram.

According to him, an explosive device planted beneath the track exploded, causing a reserve locomotive to derail. Train operations were subsequently suspended for nearly two hours and 30 minutes.

Governor Gladkov noted that no one was hurt, and railroad workers immediately began repairs.

This attack in the Belgorod Region is the latest in a series of recent incidents affecting Russia's border regions with Ukraine.

The largest attack occurred on the night between May 31 and June 1, when two bridges were destroyed—a road bridge in the Bryansk Region and a railway bridge in the Kursk Region. Seven people were killed, and 119 were injured in the incident.
