Ukraine claims it liberated five settlements from Russian occupation

Armed forces also claimed it liberated Irpin, near Kyiv, earlier this week

ANKARA (AA) - Ukraine claimed on Thursday that its armed forces liberated five settlements from Russian occupation.

Ukrainian Air Assault Forces, along with other defense forces units in the southeastern Zaporizhia region, liberated Zatyshshia, Malynivka, Vesele, Zelenyi Hai and Chervone from Russian occupation, the Ukrainian Ground Forces Command said on Telegram.

Ukrainian armed forces claimed Monday that Irpin near Kyiv was liberated from Russian occupation.

Russia's war against Ukraine, which started Feb. 24, has drawn international outrage, with the EU, US, and UK, among others, implementing tough financial sanctions on Moscow.

At least 1,189 civilians have been killed in Ukraine and 1,901 injured, according to estimates by the UN, which noted that the true figure is likely far higher.

More than 4 million Ukrainians have also fled to several European countries, with millions more displaced inside the country, according to the UN refugee agency.
