KYIV, Ukraine (AA) - Ukraine on Sunday denied a claim by Moscow that the Russian military killed more than 600 Ukrainian soldiers in a retaliatory missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk.
According to Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform, Serhiy Cherevaty, a spokesman for Ukraine’s forces in the east, claimed that Russia could not deliver high-precision strikes.
"This information is as true as the data that they have destroyed all of our HIMARS,” Cherevaty added, labeling it an information operation of the Russian Defense Ministry.
He was referring to the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, which delivers extremely accurate rockets and has helped Ukraine take on heavily armed Russian forces.
Moscow’s claim came days after Ukraine killed hundreds of Russian fighters in an attack on a barracks in the town of Makiivka on New Year's Eve.
Pavlo Kirilenko, the head of the Military Administration of the Donetsk region of Ukraine, said on Telegram that the Russian army fired seven missiles at the city of Kramatorsk and there was no loss of life in the attack.
